Metal becomes Water

METAL becomes WATER ⌇

As the winter solstice approaches I’m starting to deepen my understanding of the Five Elements cycle. We’ve just had Autumn, the season of the Metal Element. The next is Winter, the season of the Water Element.

In Metal season we focus on the lung energy, breathing deep and letting go, the season of grief. The leaves change and fall as a constant reminder that nothing is permanent and we have to live and move with that. Metal is the bucket that holds Water, and just as we let go it topples and pours us into Winter - darker, colder, the season of fear. 🌊 The organs of Water Element are the Kidneys, which store your “Jing” aka your essence, and are the origin both Yin and Yang. This season is heavy, and requires us to go deeply within and restore.

Many people dread and resist the colder seasons, eagerly waiting for them to end. In fact, the best “free medicine” is just living seasonally, the affect this has on your body and mind is incredible. This isn’t just in terms of what you eat and wear, but how you think and act. Sink deep into winter and adopt the properties of water to overcome obstacles by rushing over, flowing around, or digging deeper underneath. When you make it out the other side you will feed into the earth that, in Spring, will burst and grow as the season of the Wood Element 🌱🌳✨
