Pumpkin Porridge Recipe

PUMPKIN PORRIDGE

This breakfast is perfect to support the TCM digestive organs - Spleen & Stomach. It is warming, nourishing, filling, and delicious. Perfect for the colder months.

Stomach & Spleen time on the TCM clock is between 7am and 11am - breakfast! This is when your digestive fire is at it’s strongest - you don’t want to put it out with cold food. Support the digestive fire with cooked, warming, earth foods, and you’ll notice better energy and digestion throughout the day. Pumpkin, squash or sweet potato can be used, these all have the affect of “draining Dampness” in TCM, vital if you’re living in a cold damp country!

Ingredients:

Pumpkin/Squash - warming, circulates blood, tonifies Qi, dries dampness, resolves phlegm

Oats - warming, tonify Qi, tonify blood, calm the spirit

Cinnamon, Ginger, Nutmeg & Clove - tonify Yang, dry dampness, circulate blood, disperse internal cold

Method:

(Prep in advance) Slice a pumpkin/squash in half, scoop out the seeds, and roast cut side down for 1 hour until soft.

Once cooled, scoop the insides from the skin and transfer to a blender. Blend until smooth. Keep in the fridge

Prepare porridge oats with milk or water, the spices, and a heaped spoonful of pumpkin puree. Top with nuts, seeds, yoghurt and a drizzle of maple syrup. Enjoy!
